A 7 page paper which examines the place of ‘Englishness’ and the occult/supernatural in the nineteenth century, the occurrences of such experience outside the English landscape, and how one novel represents the realm of empiricism and skepticism while the other reflects England’s production of its own cast of supernatural beings and non-empiricist modes of perception.
